The History of Crystals
In the Stone Age, primitive men became interested in gold, which was relatively easy to melt and to cast. For this the first pieces of real jewelry were made. Silver and copper were mined during the Bronze Age and jewels, ornaments cult statuettes were made from copper, bronze and rocks of unusually striking color or shape. In ancient Greece, the Greeks made ornaments of plain gold until around 400 BC when a variety of gems and cameos were used.
Crystals were also widely used in the production of seals, carved dies or stamps used to mark documents or objects with a sign of official origin or ownership. This usage of crystals saw a sharp decline after the fall of Rome, though it was revived yet again during the 12th century.

The healing properties of crystals were first recorded in the early Egyptian days, but it was not until the height of the Roman power that the famed scholar, Pliny, wrote of crystals as a form of medicine.
So many virtues are attributed to each stone that one might conclude that ant crystal can cure a disease. It appears, however, that in many cases of duplicated healing powers, either the color or the constitution of the crystal has indicated its appropriateness for a particular disease.
Crystals and Feng Shui
Crystals are heavily used in Feng Shui as energy cleansers. It is believed that crystals, especially those with faceted cut, have the rare ability to break up and disperse negative energy from a particular location. Crystals with a smooth polish such as cabochons are also reputed to be able to purify a premises - this explains the wide popularity of crystal clusters such as crystal trees and loose stones stored in bowls.
The Chinese are also great admirers of the jade crystal for its powers in promoting long life, good health and overall prosperity. Since ancient times, back from the Tang dynasty the jade have been worn by both high-born men and women as amulets against bad luck and sicknesses.
